I sat by the side line for a while, this angle yields very dynamic shots, and I can shoot at either side (team) which is better than being at one end of the court. This is only possible however when the TV crews are not present.
The wide angle shoots at the end of the court under the basked yield very dramatic images, but it's difficult to work the other side of the court because of the visual effect of the telephoto. When the zoom is at 135 or 200 the perceived depth is lost and all the subjects in view appear to be on the same plane which is not the case. It's possible to shoot but image appears "flat".
Perhaps a possibility would be to shoot from the stands (when the guys from TV are there taking the space) but I would have to negotiate that with the red jackets and of course the farther I go the longer reach of the lens I will have to use and I will be getting the "flat image" effect that I don't like. I guess we'll see.
Something important today was that I enjoyed shooting this game quite a bit.
