I had seen this site a couple of times, isolated trees, dry grass, sunset behind. It was the perfect location but never the right time. This place is about 5 hours drive away from home. Not exactly a quick trip up the road. But I had a clear idea in my mind of what I wanted to do with this site.
The opportunity finally came and the camera sensor was exposed to the soft evening light at about 7pm.
Getting the shot was only the first step. Then there is the post processing. Here is where things can get a little strange, you can take so many different directions and end up lost at some point. Color, BW, monochrome, contrast, etc.
The final product went through all these stages and ended up being a bit different from what I originally intended. The composition remained the same, but what I got out of in the the end came from the details I discovered during post processing.
What I learned during this process will probably change the way I take photos. I had an idea of the elements on the image at a large scale. Moving forward I will be paying attention to other more subtle elements that are part of the final product.
Something else I find interesting is the comments I get from people on this photo. While some remind me of my own ideas while making this photograph others are a complete surprise. The only explanation I can give to the variety of comments is that, apart from the general mood of the scene, people project the feelings they have or those they are looking for.
Approximately 7pm Pacific Time.
