Yosemite Fall

This is from back in 2009. Yosemite is a great place.

I recently found my notes while cleaning up the hard drive on the computer.
It was a very special trip. What I saw in him that day filled me with joy.

He stood there in awe. He was mesmerized. He abandoned his own rules, forgot all his fears, and allowed his mind to wonder without limits. For a few minutes he became free of his own ideas, and was able to experience the moment without filters. For a few minutes that day, right in front of my eyes, he became as free as a child.

Never before had I seen such expression on my father's face. If I had, I'm sure my subconscious recognized it.

Balance

When you wake up in the morning, no single individual in this planet could, with the best intentions, alert you about a negatively impacting event pending to happen.

You can call me paranoid but, I do sometimes think about this while leaving the house in the morning, or somewhere along the way on the roads. All you have is your own instincts, the awareness you bring when you sit behind the wheel and start the engine. That's all you get. Oh, and that elusive ingredient we sometimes blame or thank, plain dumb luck.

Today, after stopping at the light I was able to spot a driver crossing two lanes of traffic thinking the lane I was on would continue in the general flow of traffic. If that was the case that would have made it the fast lane. While in fact this was a left-turn-only lane, on a red light.

In a very fortunate way the accident was averted when I stepped on the gas right after the driver behind me locked up the tires in his non-ABS vehicle. I was hoping to have enough room as I moved forward onto the intersection and into the flow of oncoming traffic. Heart rate up and cold sweat on my back we drove on to our destination without a scratch after the arrow light turned green.

On the way back we moved slowly through the scene of the incident and noticed the tire marks going more than a car's length beyond the white line. I truly thank all the spirits I know are watching and protecting me.

Today I had to anticipate the odds to keep the rocks balanced. While it makes me happy to have come out of this with nothing more than a story, the experience carries an aspect that calls for further analysis and consideration. The enforcement of false ideas. First, it makes me feel that I'm somehow in control --wrong. And two, it makes me feel that my paranoid behavior helps me survive. I guess a little of it helps after all but, there is definitely no need to get even more paranoid thinking it will never fail to save me.

The dream

Was it a dream?
Was it my dream?
Do I have to cross that bridge?
What if I don't like it on the other side?
What would I find?
Can I come back?
Was it my dream?
Was it a bridge?

Nature

A thin layer of clouds allows the visual effect of this soft texture on the hills.
